The Panda Foundation has come to town!  Children from 6 – 10 years old can learn the life-long skill of tennis – as well as take advantage of mentoring, nutritional and fitness education, and all kinds of fun!  Panda’s partnership with Manatee Memorial Hospital will teach our youth great preventative health skills! And, it’s all at no cost to participating children!

The Palmetto Youth Center has entered into a new partnership with Florida Studio Theatre in Sarasota, with a commitment to bring the cultural arts to PYC Youth.  On Saturday, November 12th, nearly a dozen children were able to visit Florida Studio Theatre.  After a tour of the facilities (including dressing rooms and backstage), we saw an excellent presentation of “Jack and the Enchanted Beanstalk”.  Then, we were treated to a cookie and ice cream social with the actors and producers of the play.  It was a great morning!

Keep your eyes open for upcoming arts opportunities.  A limited number of PYC youth will be able to participate in a Kids Comedy Club – an interactive comedy show for kids of all ages.  We also expect to have a young actors workshop during spring break, and may get a few scholarships to other camps and classes.

Let PYC staff if your children are interested in arts, music, and acting – Don’t miss out on this valuable opportunity!

The Palmetto Youth Center ’s Trojans Jr Peewee and Midget Dance Team each placed 3rd in the Regional Championships in Orlando on Thanksgiving Weekend.  Late in October, these two teams were the first place winners at the 2011 Best of the Bay “Cheer Jam” at the Manatee Civic Center, so advanced to Regionals. They gave excellent performances and had a great season, making all of us at the PYC and throughout Manatee County proud.

A special thanks to the dance teams, their families, the coaches, and all of our friends and families who attended practices, games, and competitions, as well as those who contributed to the fundraisers to ensure we would be able to participate.

Take a few seconds to congratulate our Dance Teams!  GO TROJANS!
